    The following essay discusses the possibilities of integrating linguistic and semantic aspects of teaching German as a Foreign Language in secondary schools in Santa Catarina using an interculturally orientated approach. Drawing on the insight that 'otherness' is a relational notion, so that the image we create of 'the other' depends essentially on the understanding of one's own culture and the histories, values and social reality inscribed in it, the article proposes a didactic approach that uses the teaching of morpho-syntactic structures to instigate intercultural reflections. Moreover, to be able to fully exploit the potential of divergent notions of 'self' and 'otherness' in the language classroom, teaching activities are proposed that allow learners to respond individually to the material presented. The article proposes and discusses various didactic activities that allow the teacher to use the course book in order to create and explore interculturally significant material. Este ensaio discute as possibilidades de integrar os aspetos linguísticos e semânticos da abordagem didática intercultural para o ensino de alemão como língua estrangeira. Baseando-se na concepção de 'alteridade' como uma noção relacional, isto é, a imagem do 'outro' depende fundamentalmente da compreensão da própria cultura e das historias, valores e realidades sociais inscritas nela, o artigo propõe uma didática que use o ensino de formas morfosintáticas para instigar reflexões interculturais. Além disso, propõe-se uma didática voltada às reações individualizadas por parte dos alunos para poder aproveitar plenamente as diferenças das noções do 'próprio' e do 'outro'. Neste contexto, sugere e discute-se atividades didáticas que permitam fazer uso do livro didático para criar e explorar material interculturalmente significante.

    This paper describes the ability of German-Portuguese bilingual siblings to narrate in German. The paper deals with the underlying theory of 'Functional Pragmatics' and describes within this theory the complex verbal pattern of narration in everyday life. In order to do this, a selected corpus will be analysed focussing on the conditions and characteristics of narration. Este artigo tem como objetivo analisar a capacidade de crianças narrarem em alemão. Como exemplo, observaram-se dois irmãos bilíngües (alemão – português). Na primeira parte, será explicada a teoria da 'Pragmática Funcional', assim como o padrão acional verbal complexo da narração na vida cotidiana. A segunda parte, empírica, explicará as condições e características de uma narração através de um corpus selecionado.

    This article emphasizes that the central element of the satanic pact in Goethe’s Faust is the driving force of modernity: the negation of the present. In contrast to traditional interpretations of Faust as a positive figure and his "striving" as a virtue of modern man, the author argues that the destructive side of Faust’s restlessness should be examined. The effective counterpoints of the rhythm of modernity, as Goethe himself suggests in the play, are religion (in its broader unconventional sense, and classically inspired art, which enable thought to "stop" in the present moment. O artigo enfatiza que um elemento central no pacto demoníaco configurado por Goethe em seu Fausto simboliza também a força motriz da Modernidade: a negação ininterrupta do presente. Diferentemente das interpretações tradicionais que vêem Fausto como figura positiva e a sua aspiração como virtude do homem moderno, o autor expõe a dimensão destrutiva da inquietude fáustica, a qual deve ser questionada pelo público contemporâneo. Na perspectiva do autor, os contrapontos efetivos ao ritmo destrutivo da Modernidade seriam, como o próprio Goethe parece sugerir no drama, a attitude religiosa (em sentido amplo, não convencional) e a arte de inspiração clássica, que propicia a reflexão e o "deter-se" no instante presente.
