    The late 18th century is characterized by two crucial events: the rise of Goethe as a dominating literary figure and the emergence of Kant’s critical philosophy and its productive reception not only in the philosophical but also literary discourse of the time. While the Tübingen School concreatively adopted Kant’s philosophy as a system of ideas, they also critically responded to its intellectualising impulse by positing the equiprimordiality of world and Self, of art and reason. Adhering to the self-critical impulse of Kant’s philosophy by positing the equiprimordiality of both the empirical world and the intelligible subject, and trying to overcome the "chorismos" between them through the classicist model of aesthetic Bildung, they argued for the co-extensiveness of the reality of both philosophy and literature. The authors investigate how the latent antagonism between these divergent traditions of the so-called Goethezeit creates the thrust behind the intellectual firework of divergent literary and philosophical discourses from around 1800, throughout the 19th and into the 20th century

    Otto Höfler’s research on Männerbünde (men’s bands or men’s societies) has stimulated critical scholarly discussion on not only the existence of Germanic Männerbünde but also the concept of cultural continuity, the relationship between ritual and myth and historical representations of masculinity. Höfler’s research has also found resonance, though, in facets of modern popular culture. This article explores how and why Otto Höfler’s Männerbund theory has shaped and continues to shape conceptions of Old Norse literature and history in modern popular culture and identifies select examples of the adoption and use of his research. ; Otto Höflers Recherche zu den germanischen Geheimbünden hat in der Wissenschaft Diskussion nicht nur über die Existenz germanischer Männerbünde provoziert, sondern auch über verwandte Themen wie kulturelle Kontinuität, das Verhältnis von Ritual und Mythen sowie historische Darstellungen von Männlichkeit. Höflers Forschung hat jedoch auch außerhalb des wissenschaftlichen Diskurses in die Facetten der modernen Populärkultur Einzug gefunden.     Der Umgang mit Naturphänomenen ist von grundlegender Bedeutung für das menschliche Handeln und Denken und für die Entwicklung von Kultur. Die vorliegende Arbeit argumentiert, dass Natur keine Entität an sich ist, sondern eine mentale Figuration, die eine wichtige Rolle bei der Strukturierung des menschlichen Denkens und dem Versuch, der Welt einen Sinn zu geben, spielt. Naturkonzeptionen sind somit vielfältig und verändern sich im Laufe der Zeit. Zudem zeigt sich, dass Naturverhältnisse und anthropologische Konzeptionen in enger Beziehung zueinanderstehen – Naturkonzeptionen sagen etwas darüber aus, wie Menschen über sich selbst und ihren Platz in der Welt denken und beeinflussen ihr Handeln. Dementsprechend müssen in Zeiten der Klimakrise die bisherigen Naturkonzeptionen überdacht werden, um neue Handlungsmöglichkeiten zu entwickeln. Ausgangspunkt der Arbeit ist eine kritische Auseinandersetzung mit dem Naturbegriff und dem Forschungsfeld der Ökokritik. Die Arbeit untersucht deutsche und dänische Literatur der Gegenwart im Hinblick auf die Wechselbeziehungen zwischen Menschen und Naturphänomenen und befasst sich insbesondere mit Raum, dem Verhältnis von Mensch und Tier und der Problematik der Unsicherheit und Vergänglichkeit, die sich neu stellt, wenn die Kontrolle über das, was ›Natur‹ genannt wird, reduziert wird. Beleuchtet wird die Komplexität menschlicher Naturkonzeptionen und die Frage, wie zukünftig ein verantwortungsbewusstes und tragfähiges Zusammenspiel zwischen Menschen und Naturphänomenen aussehen könnte. ; Dealing with natural phenomena is fundamental to human action and thought and the development of culture.
