    Ziel dieses Aufsatzes ist es, die sprachliche Normativität in diesem Kontext methodologisch adäquat zu verorten zu versuchen. Als Eckpunkte dazu bieten sich beide entwickelten Methodologien an, die sich auf die Untersuchung des Sprachgebrauchs konzentrieren, d.h. auf die quantitative und die qualitative Forschung. Einleitend werden jeweils ihre wichtigsten Prinzipien zusammengefasst. Im Anschluss daran wird diskutiert, in welchem Paradigma eigentlich die Frage nach Normativität adäquat ist und inwieweit die Voraussetzung zu verteidigen wäre, dass aus Belegbarkeit und hohen Vorkommenshäufigkeiten bestimmter Varianten bzw. Strukturen in den Korpora auf Sprachnormen und Normgerechtheit geschlossen werden kann.

    Growing globalisation of the world draws attention to cultural differences between people from different countries or from different cultures within the countries. Notwithstanding the diversity of people’s worldviews, current cross-cultural research still faces the challenge of how to avoid ethnocentrism; comparing Western-driven phenomena with like variables across countries without checking their conceptual equivalence clearly is highly problematic. In the present article we argue that simple comparison of measurements (in the quantitative domain) or of semantic interpretations (in the qualitative domain) across cultures easily leads to inadequate results. Questionnaire items or text produced in interviews or via open-ended questions have culturally laden meanings and cannot be mapped onto the same semantic metric. We call the culture-specific space and relationship between variables or meanings a ’cultural metric’, that is a set of notions that are inter-related and that mutually specify each other’s meaning. We illustrate the problems and their possible solutions with examples from quantitative and qualitative research. The suggested methods allow to respect the semantic space of notions in cultures and language groups and the resulting similarities or differences between cultures can be better understood and interpreted.

    Dos vários recursos disponíveis ao aprendizado da língua estrangeira (LE), o livro didático tem provado ser indubitavelmente um dos elementos centrais para os mecanismos de ensino-aprendizagem em nossas salas de aula ao longo das décadas (RÖSLER; SCHART 2016). Este artigo avança as discussões atuais acerca da utilização do livro didático de alemão como língua estrangeira (ALE) especificamente no contexto do ensino superior brasileiro e tem como objetivo apresentar e discutir criticamente a partir de uma pesquisa exploratório-interpretativa (CASPARI; HELBIG; SCHMELTER 2007) a percepção dos alunos sobre o livro didático "DaF Kompakt", utilizado por uma universidade pública no Rio de Janeiro que oferece o Curso de Letras Português-Alemão. O artigo apresenta inicialmente uma discussão acerca do papel do livro didático e das crenças e percepções discentes sobre ensino-aprendizagem de ALE, em seguida apresenta e analisa os dados coletados por meio de pesquisa qualitativa junto a discentes do ensino superior e, por fim, propõe uma agenda de pesquisa que aponta para possibilidades de análise crítica do uso do livro didático de língua estrangeira e de uma investigação mais aprofundada e contrastiva sobre limites e possibilidades dos materiais usados em cursos de língua alemã nas universidades brasileiras. ; Among the many available foreign language (FL) resources, textbooks have undoubtedly been one of the core elements in teaching-learning mechanisms in classrooms for many decades (RÖSLER; SCHART 2016). This paper extends current discussions on the use of textbooks for teaching German as a Foreign Language, specifically within the context of Brazilian universities.     This chapter focuses on the contributions of German scholars to two of the three main research questions that have defined EU studies. Leaving aside the debate on the drivers of European integration, i.e. European integration theory, we will discuss the «governance turn» Fritz Scharpf, Beate Kohler-Koch, Arthur Benz, Ingeborg Tömmel and others promoted in studying EU institutions as well as the more policy-oriented approaches by Adrienne Héritier and again Fritz Scharpf and their students. We will then address the ever-growing literature on Europeanization on how EU policies, institutions and political processes have been affecting the domestic structures of member states, membership candidates, as well as neighborhood and third countries. In this context, German scholars also contributed to EU studies in what could be coined in methodological rather than substantial terms. Whereas Thomas König, Gerald Schneider, and others promoted the application of quantitative approaches, scientists like Bernhard Ebbinghaus and Markus Haverland dealt with general questions on research designs like case selection and causal inference. Finally, we will also discuss German contributions to diffusion research. The European Union as a most likely case for the diffusion of policies has attracted considerable attention by scholars dealing with the question of when and how policies spread across time and space. So it comes as no surprise that EU studies as well as diffusion research mutually benefitted from each other. In this regard, German scientists like Katharina Holzinger, Christoph Knill, Tanja Börzel, Thomas Plümper, Thomas Risse and others played a prominent role, too.
