    Monologic dialogues and dialogue structures in Wedekind's 'Frühlings Erwachen' A drama presents a plot which is constituted through dialogues between the characters. This article therefore attempts to explore several instances of dialogue from Wedekind's 'Frühlings Erwachen' by conversationalanalytical means; such an approach facilitates a clear description of the characters' failures in their interactions. This in turn reveals the specific features of literary dialogues from this period, which are constituted in writing and thus precisely planned; an author not only imitates acts and actors via a play's dialogues, but fundamentally creates and moulds the characters through dialogue.

    The article describes the role of German as a working language and official language of the European Union. It also focuses on issues associated with the notion of an 'overarching' language of general use: especially in the field of law, each language reflects the specific legal and administrative traditions of the society in which it developed, meaning that different languages frequently lack precise one-to-one equivalents for particular legal concepts. Finally, the author assesses the 'economic value' of several European languages as proposed by Ulrich Ammons, demonstrating that German plays a leading role in this regard.

    The article starts by giving a brief survey of the current state of German-Czech and Czech-German lexicography in the field of learners' dictionaries. It then continues with a metalexicographic examination of two translational dictionaries published since 2000. Attention focuses on the ways in which each team of authors addresses some basic metalexicographic problems in the introductory texts. The article then explores the methods of description used for fixed lexical phrases, which are critically analyzed (using as an example the dictionary entry for the lemma Kopf (head).

    On history in the present day. Laudatio to Lenka Vaňková.

    This paper takes as its starting point several statements by Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz on the role of the German language in literary and scholarly life during Leibniz's era. The languages of scholarship were Latin and French, and Leibniz himself published in both these languages. German was the language of practical life. Viewed from this perspective, it was almost inevitable that medieval and early modern medicine - not in the sense of academic theory, but as a practical activity - developed its own fully-fledged specialist language, which was largely based on the vernacular. In her studies of the language of historical medicine, Lenka Vaňková has shown how such vernacular language was (and potentially still is) able to function in specialist domains.

    In diesem Beitrag geht es zunächst um den aktuellen Stand der Forschung über das Verhältnis von Sprache und Emotionen mit besonderer Berücksichtigung der Untersuchungen zum Deutschen und Tschechischen. Anschließend werden einige Teilaspekte des Themas behandelt: die Unterscheidung zwischen emotionsausdrückender und emotionsbezeichnender Lexik, die Rolle der bildlichen Sprache sowie das Verhältnis vom Sprachübergreifenden und Einzelsprachlichen bei der Verbalisierung von Emotionen. Abschließend wird der Frage nachgegangen, welche Konsequenzen die im Rahmen eines Projektes ermittelten Gemeinsamkeiten, Ähnlichkeiten und Unterschiede bei der Versprachlichung von Emotionen im Deutschen und Tschechischen für die Behandlung emotionsrelevanter Lexik im DaF-Unterricht bei tschechischen Muttersprachlern haben können. The present article focuses first on the current state of research on the relations between language and emotions, with special attention to the contrastive comparison of German and Czech. Subsequently, specific aspects of the topic will be discussed such as the distinction between emotion-expressing and emotion-descriptive lexis, the role of figurative language, and the relationship between metalinguistic expressions and individual language in the verbalization of emotions. Finally, the question is raised as to the consequences of determined commonalities, similarities, and differences in the verbalisation of emotions in German and Czech to the teaching of the emotionrelevant lexis to Czech native speakers.
