    The present article is a comparative analysis of "Das Parfum" by Patrick Süskind and "Peter Schlemihls wundersame Geschichte" by Adalbert von Chamisso. The analysis applies Walter Benjamin 's concepts of experience and event to the deep structure of the narratives and the characters and confronts the issue of identity of the modern hero, who is unable to undergo any kind of experience, with the loss of sense that the individual suffers from as a result of the disenchantment of the world. O presente artigo e uma análise comparativa de "Das Parfum" de Patrick Süskind e "Peter Schlemihls wundersame Geschichte" de Adalbert von Chamisso. A análise aplica os conceitos de experiencia e evento da Walter Benjamin à estrutura profunda das narrativas e dos caracteres e confronta a temátiea da identidade do herói moderno sem nenhuma experiência com a perda de sentido que o indivíduo sofre em função do desencantamento do mundo.

    Taking the notion of frame as a base for lexical dexcription, we elaborate a cognitive proverb-model. This model serves as an instrument for the understanding and the translation of proverbs. It makes it possible to trace the proverbs' structural, semantical and pragmatical recurrences in the text. In this paper we show the influence the proverb has on the text and discuss translation problems by means of examples. Partinando da idéia de frame como base para a descrição lexical, elaboramos um modelo cognitivo de provérbios. Este modelo serve de instrumento para a compreensão e tradução de proverbios. Ele permite localizar as suas recorrências estruturais, lexicais, semânticas e pragmáticas no texto. Demonstramos, neste trabalho, a influência do provérbio sobre o texto, e discutimos os cuidados necessários na tradução através de exemplos concretos.

    This paper tries to give a definition of stereotype and prejudice, taking as a base definitions from Cognitive and Social Psychology and Linguistics. The author comes to the conclusion that stereotypes and prejudice are natural mental stages, necessary for the processing of cognitive input. As a part of human cognition, prejudice must be prevented from becoming socially dangerous. It has to be diminished and modificated by personal contact between individuals of different cultures. O presente artigo procura definir a noção de estereótipo e preconceito, partindo de definições já estabelecidas no âmbito da psicologia cognitiva e social e na lingüística, para chegar à conclusão que estereótipos e preconceitos são instâncias mentais naturais, necessárias no processamento de dados cognitivo. Sendo essas instâncias cognitivas parte da mente humana, deve-se prevenir a formação de preconceitos socialmente perigosos. Estes preconceitos podem ser diminuidos e modificados através do contato pessoal entre individuos de culturas diferentes.

    This essay shows how Goethe and Johann Gottlieb Fichte converge in a common supranational cultural ideal, in spite of their divergences in relation to their poetic and scientific approaches. Goethe's idea of style as the supreme principle of art and Fichte's philosophical conception, which emphasizes philosophical activity as the art of thinking independently, constitute the thematic focus of the present article which also tries to make the point of coincidence of art and science evident. Este ensaio pretende mostrar como Goethe e Johann Gottlieb Fichte convergem num ideal cultural supranacional comum, apesar de suas divergências no que diz respeito a seus enfoques poéticos e cientificos. A idéia de Goethe acerca do estilo como supremo princípio da arte e a concepção filosófica de Fichte, que enfatiza o fazer filosófico como me de pensar por conta propria, constituem o foco temático central do presente artigo, tentando evidenciar, ao mesmo tempo, o ponto de coincidência de arte e ciencia.
