    Die Zeitschrift Pandaemonium Germanicum erscheint zweimal jährlich und versteht sich als Forum für die wissenschaftliche Diskussion in den verschiedenen Bereichen der internationalen Germanistik, nämlich der Literatur- und Übersetzungswissenschaft, Linguistik, DaF und Kulturstudien. Die Zeitschrift wird von der deutschen Abteilung der FFLCH-USP (Universität São Paulo) seit 1997 herausgegeben und will zur Verbreitung unveröffentlichter Forschungen von GermanistInnen aus Brasilien und anderen Ländern, sowie zur Förderung des Dialogs zwischen der Germanistik und anderen Wissensbereichen beitragen.

    The following article aims to discuss the ground vocabulary of Freudian Metapsychology, beyond the conception of a simple and stiff collection of technique terms. Facing the fact that Freud was a brilliant writer and a keen explorer of the resources provided by the German language, we intend to demonstrate some distortions his vocabulary and style underwent after its passage through internationally influent translations into English and French. Therefore, since recently his work went into the public domain and finally it begins to be directly translated into Portuguese, it is a capital challenge to Freud´s translators in Brazil to recover the lifelike face of his words not disregarding the accuracy of his propositions. O presente artigo objetiva uma discussão sobre o vocabulário fundamental da Metapsicologia freudiana, para além da concepção de um simples e estanque agrupado de termos técnicos. Levando-se também em consideração o fato de que Freud foi um escritor brilhante e um perspicaz explorador dos recursos oferecidos pela língua alemã, é nossa intenção demonstrar certas distorções de seu estilo e vocabulário sofridas após ter passado por traduces internacionalmente influentes para as línguas inglesa e francesa. Logo, com a recente entrada da obra freudiana para o domínio público, esta finalmente passou a ser traduzida diretamente para o português, tornando-se atualmente um desafio fundamental aos tradutores brasileiros de Freud recuperar a vivacidade de suas palavras sem deixar de levar em consideração a acuidade de suas proposições.

    The father-son relationship has long been a cornerstone of psychoanalytic research. This article examines one such relationship, as present in Joseph Roth's novel "Zipper and His Father" ("Zipper und sein Vater", 1928), in the relevant historical and psycho-social context. Tracing a parallel between the fatherly figure of the Austro-Hungarian Emperor, Franz Joseph, and Arnold Zipper's father, as well as drawing upon the narrator's (and Roth's own) personal experience, the article presents an analysis of the importance of the fatherly figure and the devastating consequences of its absence. A relação pai-filho é uma das pedras angulares da pesquisa psicanalítica. Este artigo examina tal relação, assim como se apresenta no romance "Zipper und sein Vater" (1928, "Zipper e seu pai"), de Joseph Roth, em um contexto histórico e psicossocial relevante. Traçando um paralelo entre a figural paternal do Imperador Austro-Húngaro, Franz Joseph, e o pai de Arnold Zipper, e valendo-se da experiência pessoal do narrador (e do próprio Roth), o artigo apresenta uma análise da importância da figura e as consequências devastadoras de sua ausência.

    This article aims to investigate the correlation of thought between three leading names in the second half of the nineteenth century – Friedrich Nietzsche, Sigmund Freud and Hugo von Hofmannsthal – that have addressed the crisis of male identity against the return of matriarchy. Considering the Vienna fin-de-siècle as a backdrop, female is presented here through Electra, a mythical heroine. In Hofmannsthal's homonymous play, she represents not only strengthening as the woman's own destruction. Este artigo tem por objetivo investigar a correlação de pensamento entre três importantes nomes da segunda metade do século XIX – Friedrich Nietzsche, Sigmund Freud e Hugo von Hofmannsthal – que se debruçaram sobre as crises da identidade masculina frente ao retorno do matriarcado. Tendo a Viena fin-de-siècle como cenário, o feminino é apresentado aqui por intermédio de Electra, que no texto homônimo de Hofmannsthal representa não só o fortalecimento como a própria destruição da mulher.

    The objective of this text is to analyze the stranger's experience in the novel "Die Aufzeichnungen des Malte Laurids Brigge" by Rainer Maria Rilke through new interpretation perspectives based, for example, on Sigmund Freud's psychoanalytic theories. Living in a foreign metropolis (Paris), which he does not identify with yet, the novel's protagonist, Malte Laurids Brigge, discovers a new inner world through his shock with stranger's experiences in this environment. The revelation of his childhood memories and his ego projection through readings of narratives by others are his methods to search and assert his identity. O objetivo deste texto é analisar a experiência do estranho no romance "Die Aufzeichnungen des Malte Laurids Brigge", de Rainer Maria Rilke, através de novas perspectivas de interpretação apoiadas, por exemplo, nas teorias psicanalíticas de Sigmund Freud. Vivendo em uma cidade estrangeira (Paris), com a qual ainda não se identifica, o protagonista do romance, Malte Laurids Brigge, descobre um mundo interior novo através de seu choque com experiências do estranho nesse milieu. A revelação de recordações de sua infância e a projeção de seu ego em leituras de narrativas alheias são seus métodos para buscar e afirmar sua identidade.

    This article approaches the ambivalent relations between Musil and Freud. It proceeds in three sections. The first analises the spontaneous psychoanalytical intuitions Musil exposes in his first novel, "The confusions of young Törless". The psychological insights of the novelist accompany and also anticipate the discoveries of the father of psychoanalysis. The second section exposes the seminal studies of Corino and Henninger (among other authors) who see Musil's reserved attitude towards Freud as a symptomatic resistence and interpret the unconscious determination of his work. The third exposes other reasons (aesthetic and theoretical arguments) which explain the author's reluctance, without excluding the resistencetheory. Musil has a vast scientific and mathematical, philosophical and aesthetic framework of references which differs from psychoanalysis. It emerges in his project which underpins the novels "Nupcias" (Musil's second work after "Törless"). Este artigo sobre as relações ambivalentes entre Musil e Freud procede em três etapas. Na primeira, analisamos as intuições psicanalíticas de Musil no seu primeiro romance, "O jovem Törless". Os 'insights' psicológicos do romancista acompanham e antecipam as descobertas clínicas do pai da Psicanálise. A segunda se debruça sobre os trabalhos seminais (Corino, Henninger, entre outros) que veem as reservas de Musil diante de Freud como resistências sintomáticas e evidenciam a determinação inconsciente de sua obra. A terceira expõe outras razões (estéticas e teóricas) para a reserva do artista. Estas não excluem, mas se adicionam às resistências sintomáticas. Musil dispõe de um referencial científico e matemático, filosófico e estético diferente da Psicanálise; ele se manifesta no projeto sui generis das novelas "Uniões" (a segunda obra de Musil após o "Törless").

    The objective of this paper is to make a reading of conceptual elements present in the Freudian view on poetry and literature, pointing out its problematic aspects, but also the relevant ones to the analysis of the aesthetic phenomenon. Initially, we review briefly the significant points in the tradition of critical comments on Freudian aesthetic reflections, then comment on the text "Creative Writers and Day-Dreaming" (1908), in which we employ the comparison with themes and concepts in the "Poetics" of Aristotle and in the "Critique of Judgment" of Kant. In the last part we opposed some of the concepts presented in this first text to the article "The Uncanny" (1919), where we propose a reading that makes a contrast of the role and importance given to the aesthetic dimension in both texts. The entire trajectory is oriented to demonstrate the need to conceive of the aesthetic from the intertwining, from identity and difference, between the unconscious psychic field and its ways of actualization refracted by the imagistic-imaginary dimension. O objetivo do texto é fazer uma leitura de elementos conceituais presentes na concepção freudiana sobre a poesia e a literatura, apontando aspectos problemáticos, como também os que se mostram pertinentes para análise do fenômeno estético. Inicialmente, passamos brevemente em revista pontos significativos de comentários críticos às reflexes estéticas freudianas da tradição, passando então a comentar o texto "Der Dichter und das Phantasieren" (1908), em que nos serviremos da comparação com temas e conceitos presents na "Poética" de Aristóteles e na "Kritik der Urteilskraft" de Kant. Na última parte, contrapomos alguns conceitos presentes neste primeiro texto ao artigo "Das Unheimliche" (1919), em que propomos uma leitura que faz contrastar o papel e importância conferidos à dimensão estética em ambos os textos. Toda a trajetória está orientada para demonstrar a necessidade de conceber o estético a partir do entrelaçamento, da identidade e da diferença, entre o âmbito psíquico inconsciente e suas formas de atualização refratadas pela dimensão imagético-imaginária.

    "O crime do professor de matemática", by Clarice Lispector, addresses the unconscious need for punishment arising from the feeling of guilt, which is an inexorable element of the human psyche. The man's mirroring in his pet leads him to an approximation of a possible awareness of this disorder, which culminates in the unavoidable abandonment of the dog. Based on Sigmund Freud's essays "Das Unheimliche" and "Das Unbehagen in der Kultur", we aim at understanding the origin of the doleful identification between these two characters in the narrated story, as well as the corollary of the culture that is responsible for the human sadness which the teacher is inevitably part of "O crime do professor de Matemática", de Clarice Lispector, aborda a necessidade inconsciente de punição advinda do sentimento de culpa, que constitui elemento inexorável da psique humana. O espelhamento do homem em seu animal o conduz à aproximação de uma possível consciência deste transtorno, fato que culmina no irremissível abandono do cão. Com base nos ensaios "O estranho" e "O mal–estar na civilização", de Sigmund Freud, almeja–se entender a origem da dolente identificação entre estes dois personagens narrada no conto, bem como o corolário da cultura, responsável pela tristeza humana com a qual o professor irremediavelmente se coaduna.

    A reflection on the goal of intercultural learning does not seem to be present in Brazilian publications, especially in the area of German as a Foreign Language. Although intercultural learning is the subject of many papers, contents and objectives seem still to be determined by courseware of German publishers, and this is reflected in the training of future teachers. The solution would be a consistent and systematic integration, since the beginning of the academic studies, of the specific content related to German as a Foreign Language in the undergraduate programs in German, through a real interdisciplinarity of the areas of Language and Literature and the Humanities. Uma reflexão básica sobre o objetivo da aprendizagem intercultural parece ainda não estar presente nas publicações brasileiras, principalmente na área de Alemão como Língua Estrangeira. Embora a aprendizagem intercultural seja tema de muitos trabalhos da área, o conteúdo e os objetivos parecem ainda ser fixados pelo material didático mais recente do catálogo das editoras alemãs, e isso se reflete na formação dos futuros professores. A solução seria uma integração consequente e sistemática, desde o início do curso, dos conteúdos específicos relativos ao Alemão como Língua Estrangeira no Curso universitário de alemão, através de uma real interdisciplinaridade entre as áreas de Letras e de Ciências Humanas.

    This research, a linguistic contrastive study of package inserts' texts from Germany and Brazil, was developed with the aim to verify differences and similarities between them. To achieve this purpose, 20 package inserts were compared in their macro and microstructure surfaces, after a detailed investigation of the genre's main characteristics. As a result of the analysis, it was possible to confirm the presence of convergences and divergences in the Brazilian and German package inserts and identify some reasons for their existence. Na presente pesquisa foi desenvolvido um estudo linguístico contrastivo de textos de bulas de medicamentos da Alemanha e do Brasil com o objetivo de verificar a existência de diferenças e semelhanças entre eles. Para isso, um total de 20 bulas foram comparadas em seus níveis macro e microestrutural, após uma investigação detalhada das principais características do gênero em questão. Ao final da análise contrastiva, foi confirmada a presença de convergências e divergências no gênero, tendo em vista o par linguístico adotado, e também identificadas algumas explicações para tal.

    Die Zeitschrift Pandaemonium Germanicum erscheint zweimal jährlich und versteht sich als Forum für die wissenschaftliche Diskussion in den verschiedenen Bereichen der internationalen Germanistik, nämlich der Literatur- und Übersetzungswissenschaft, Linguistik, DaF und Kulturstudien. Die Zeitschrift wird von der deutschen Abteilung der FFLCH-USP (Universität São Paulo) seit 1997 herausgegeben und will zur Verbreitung unveröffentlichter Forschungen von GermanistInnen aus Brasilien und anderen Ländern, sowie zur Förderung des Dialogs zwischen der Germanistik und anderen Wissensbereichen beitragen.

    The current paper discusses Herta Müller's poetry essays in the context of contemporary autobiographical German writing. The question of referentiality of her essays will receive special attention; in these writings several aesthetic characteristics of autobiographical composition will also be shown. Furthermore, it will be demonstrated to what extent the effect of her essayistic writing is not only aesthetic, but also and mainly political. No presente artigo discute-se o ensaísmo poetológico de Herta Müller no contexto da escrita autobiográfica alemã contemporânea. A questão da referencialidade de seus ensaios receberá especial atenção; nesses textos também serão apontadas as diversas características estéticas da composição autobiográfica. No mais, demonstra-se em que medida o efeito de sua escrita ensaística não é somente estético mas também e, principalmente, político.

    This article analyses the parallels between, on the one hand, the portrayal of the 'struggling modern subject' depicted by Goethe in his "Die Leiden des jungen Werthers" and, on the other, the psychosocial profile of the 'sentimental man' from the 18th century, product of the cultural environment of the Empfindsamkeit. I argue that in this novel, in borrowing the Empfindsamkeit's most traditional literary genre — the epistolary novel —, Goethe ends up mimicking a number of topoi and discursive techniques proper to this tradition, though in a radically heterodox fashion. The approach will lead us to a deduction of Goethe's own views on the modern subject, which situates him as an important figure within the discourse of modernity. O artigo analisa os paralelos entre o retrato do 'sujeito moderno em crise' visto no romance "Die Leiden des jungen Werthers" de Goethe e, por outro lado, o perfil psicossocial do 'homem do sentimento' do século XVIII, fruto da cultura da Empfindsamkeit. Defendo a perspectiva de que, no romance, Goethe não apenas se utiliza do formato literário mais tradicional da Empfindsamkeit (o do romance epistolar), como também se apropria de topói e técnicas discursivas que lhe são próprias em registro radicalmente heterodoxo. A argumentação nos ligará a uma dedução da visão do conceito de subjetividade moderna com que Goethe trabalha em sua fase final do Sturm und Drang, e que o situa como importante nome do discurso filosófico da modernidade.

    In this article we present an analysis of the main characters in the film "Bagdad Café" focusing on dialogical processes and cultural conflicts which influence the identity formation and decentering of these characters. The main objective of this paper is to analyze the identity shift in these film characters relying on the works by Bakhtin and Bhabha in cultural theory. The aim is therefore to identify and describe conflicts in this cultural space that is characterised by change and fluidity. Neste artigo, apresentamos uma análise dos processos de diálogo e conflito cultural que influenciam a formação e o deslocamento de identidade das personagens no filme "Bagdá Café". O objetivo principal deste trabalho é analisar o movimento identitário das personagens à luz das teorias culturais de Bakthin e Bhabha. Para tanto, buscamos identificar e descrever os conflitos de cunho cultural neste espaço, caracterizado pela mudança e fluidez.

    In this article, we compare two translations of the novel "Verstörung" (first published in German in 1967) by the Austrian writer Thomas Bernhard: the Portuguese translation (1986, by Leopoldina Almeida) and the Brazilian translation (1999, by Hans Peter Welper and José Laurenio de Melo). The article is based on the premise that "Verstörung" is a book with a strong performative dimension; the disturbance which names the book is not only represented in the plot and the characterization of the characters, but also - and especially – in the style, in the language of the German text. We discuss and compare different solutions of translations in the Portuguese versions, as well as the paratexts contained in the two publications. We found two different postures in dealing with the specifics of the language in this novel, both with consequences for their performative effect. Finally, we suggest that these attitudes can be seen as reflections of different moments of literary criticism in relation to Thomas Bernhard. Neste artigo, comparamos duas traduções em língua portuguesa do romance "Verstörung" (primeira edição em língua alemã em 1967) do escritor austríaco Thomas Bernhard: a tradução portuguesa (1986, por Leopoldina Almeida) e a brasileira (1999, por Hans Peter Welper e José Laurenio de Melo). Partimos da premissa de que "Verstörung" é um livro com uma dimensão performativa acentuada, ou seja, a perturbação que dá nome ao livro não está representada apenas no enredo e na caracterização dos personagens, mas também – ou sobretudo – no estilo, na linguagem do texto em alemão. Discutimos e comparamos diferentes soluções tradutórias nas referidas versões em português, assim como os paratextos que constam nas duas publicações. Constatamos duas posturas divergentes ao lidar com as especificidades da linguagem da obra, ambas com consequências para o seu efeito performativo. Por fim, sugerimos que essas posturas possam ser reflexos das diferenças da própria crítica literária em relação a Thomas Bernhard em dois momentos diversos.

    The purpose of this article is to analyze the results of a survey carried out with students of German as a foreign language, who were inserted in three different learning contexts in the city of São Paulo. The research aimed to investigate the beliefs of these learners concerning their process of learning the German language. The data, collected through questionnaires and interviews, revealed many of these beliefs, some related to, for example, the process of learning the German grammar. The results suggest a relationship between the beliefs and the choice of certain learning strategies. In the analysis stage, we sought to identify possible sources for the detected beliefs, as well as their potential effects on the learning process. In this article, some of the beliefs identified in the survey will be described and analyzed in relation to theoretical and methodological assumptions for teaching grammar in the didactic methods of foreign languages. O objetivo deste trabalho é divulgar e analisar os resultados de uma pesquisa realizada em três instituições paulistanas nas quais se ensina/aprende alemão como língua estrangeira. A pesquisa teve como objetivo geral investigar as crenças que alunos de língua alemã mantêm em relação a seu processo de aprendizagem. O corpus, coletado a partir de questionários e entrevistas, revelou muitas dessas crenças, referentes, por exemplo, à aprendizagem de gramática. Os resultados também apontam para a existência de uma relação entre as crenças e a adoção de determinadas estratégias de aprendizagem. Durante a análise, buscou-se identificar possíveis origens para as crenças detectadas, bem como os efeitos potenciais das mesmas sobre a aprendizagem da língua alemã. No presente artigo, algumas das crenças constatadas no estudo serão descritas e analisadas em relação a pressupostos teóricos e metodológicos da didática de línguas estrangeiras para o ensino de gramática.

    The main character in Kleist's "Michael Kohlhaas" novella sacrifices himself in order to guarantee his survival. Nonetheless, as the reader will eventually notice, his fight produces no new reality at all, but only reaffirms a law that was already in force. A magic and natural law wich will send him on a journey of vengeance and justice. At the end of it, the man who laboured to ratify himself as an autonomous subject ends up serving as an object. But the result will be as well one of confirmation from the order wich gave birth to this subject. A strange order where contradictory elements (rule of law/lawlessness; violence/peace; justice/injustice; myth/history; heaven/hell; etc.) affirm themselves mutually. Die Hauptfigur der kleistschen Novelle "Michael Kohlhaas" bemüht sich mit allen ihren Kräften ihr Weiterleben zu gewährleisten. Wie der Leser aber früher oder später bemerken wird, bringt ihr Kampf keine neue Ordnung, sondern bestätigt wieder ein Gesetz, das schon gültig war. Ein zauberisches und natürliches Gesetz, dass die Hauptfigur auf eine von Rache und Gerechtigkeit geprägte Reise senden wird. Am Schluss dieser Reise, offenbart sich der Mann, der ein selbstständiges Subjekt sein wollte, als ein bloßes Objekt. Aber das Ergebnis zeigt sich auch als eine Bekräftigung der Ordnung, die dieses Subjekt auf die Welt gebracht hat. Eine merkwürdige Ordnung, wo widersprüchliche Elemente (Ordnung/Unordnung; Gewalt/Frieden; Gerechtigkeit/Ungerechtigkeit; Mythos/Geschichte; Himmel/Hölle; usw.) sich gegenseitig bestätigen.

    Franz Kafka's critical fortune is rich in relating the writer's way to construct his own narrative associated sometimes with themes treated in Kleist's literary works. In support of my reflections upon this issue, I have focused on the essays by two Brazilian literary critics who have revealed aspects of this relation: Otto Maria Carpeaux and Luiz Costa Lima. Many decades separate one from the other; however, both seem to have confluence lines on Kafka's approach to Kleist's work. After presenting aspects of Kleist-Kafka relation based on a critical background, I looked for references about Kleist in Kafka's non-literary texts, in order to establish a foundation for what is said by the critics mentioned in this essay. A fortuna crítica sobre Franz Kafka é pródiga em relacionar o modo de o escritor construir sua narrativa e algo dos próprios temas com a produção kleistiana. Como uma forma de refletir sobre isso, atentarei para dois críticos que expuseram aspectos desta relação em solo brasileiro: Otto Maria Carpeaux e Luiz Costa Lima. Distados várias décadas, os dois parecem, contudo, possuir certas linhas de confluência na abordagem kleistiana da obra de Franz Kafka. Após expor aspectos da relação Kleist-Kafka nos recortes da crítica brasileira, buscarei referências a Kleist em textos não literários de Kafka com a finalidade de encontrar neles um fundamento para o que é afirmado pelos críticos tratados neste ensaio.

    The parallel between the novels "Berlin Alexanderplatz" and "Grande Sertão: Veredas" was first drawn within the Brazilian literary criticism in a comment made by Davi Arrigucci Jr. With the intent of pursuing the discussion raised by the author, this article proposes a more detailed analysis of the elements which define both texts as representative works of the modern novel discourse. The analysis focuses on the movements which characterize the trajectories taken by the protagonists Franz Biberkopf and Riobaldo, with a view on the characters' transit in space, as well as emotionally, and also in regard to the transit that operates the narration within both novels. In this light, the article outlines the particularities which situate both novels within the tradition that associates them with the books "Wilhelm Meisters Lehrjahre" and "L’Éducation Sentimentale". Die Parallelen zwischen den Romanen "Berlin Alexanderplatz" und "Grande Sertão: Veredas" werden in der brasilianischen Sekundärliteratur seit Davi Arrigucci Jr.s Kommentar sichtbar. In der Absicht, die dort begonnene Diskussion fortzusetzen, werden hier die Elemente im Detail untersucht, die beide Texte als Exponenten des modernen Romans einander annähern würden. Besonderes Augenmerk gilt den für die Laufbahn beider Protagonisten charakteristischen Bewegungen, den räumlichen und emotionalen Veränderungen der Figuren sowie insbesondere dem "Verkehr", der die Erzählung in beiden Romanen vorantreibt. Hiermit sollen die Besonderheiten dieser Romane, die sie in einer gemeinsamen Traditionslinie mit "Wilhelm Meisters Lehrjahre" und der "L’Éducation Sentimentale" verorten.

    Besides Rousseau's general influence in the aesthetic ideals of Romanticism, the more direct links between him and the great German romantic E. T. A. Hoffmann are worthy of a detailed study. Such a study should compare not only works, but also lives, since there are remarkable biographical parallels between the two authors. In this paper I limit myself to examine one text of Hoffmann's, the fairy tale "Das fremde Kind", trying to show that Rousseau's echoes in that work go much deeper than the superficial and worn out "good savage's" cliché. Para além da influência geral de Rousseau na constituição do ideário estético do Romantismo, as relações mais diretas que o ligam ao grande romântico alemão E. T. A. Hoffmann são merecedoras de um estudo detalhado. Um tal estudo deveria confrontar não só as obras, mas as próprias vidas, já que são notáveis os paralelos biográficos entre os dois autores. Neste trabalho limito-me a examinar um único texto de Hoffmann, o conto de fadas "Das fremde Kind", buscando mostrar que os ecos rousseaunianos nessa obra são bem mais profundos do que uma mera re-elaboração do desgastado e superficial clichê do "bom selvagem". Außer Rousseaus allgemeinem Einfluss auf die ästhetischen Ideale der Romantik, wären die direkteren Verbindungen zwischen ihm und dem großen deutschen Romantiker E. T. A. Hoffmann einer ausführlichen Auseinandersetzung würdig. Diese sollte nicht nur die Werke vergleichen, sondern auch die Lebenswege, da beide Autoren außerordentlich viel gemeinsam haben, was ihre Biographie betrifft. In dieser Arbeit beschränke ich mich aber darauf, nur ein einziges Werk, nämlich Hoffmanns Märchen "Das fremde Kind", zu untersuchen. Mein Ziel ist es zu zeigen, dass der Widerhall von Rousseaus Ideen in diesem Märchen stärker ist als lediglich eine Wiederholung der abgenutzten und oberflächlichen Klischees des "bon sauvage".
