Collocations form an important part of the vocabulary in every language and therefore they play a great role in the process of learning of a foreign language. Each language has its own inventory of word combinations, which are preferred and used by native speakers in their daily communication without any difficulties. They can cause big obstacles to non-native speakers in the production of the speech. Despite their relevance in the communication, collocations have already been a neglected part of DaF-Teaching. Contrastive collocation researchhelps to give new sense of direction to the work with vocabulary, DaF, lexicography and translation practice. Contrastive approaches are next to absent in linguistic research. Gained knowledge can be helpful in the detailed introduction of German language, which helps to anin-depth characteristic of German language and improvement of translation, interpreting and the language-building skills. This contribution deals with verbal collocations in a contrastive comparison between German and Slovak from with a particular focus on foreign language teaching. The comparison of subsystems of two languages is always done synchronically and this contribution deals with synchronic bilateral contrastive analysis of verbal collocations in German and Slovak languages, with their morpho-syntactic and lexical-semantic aspects of collocations taken in to account.
